`President Joao Bernardo Vieira of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau makes a state visit to our country for four days, June 25-28,1985 at the invitation of President Chun Doo Hwan.
Guinea-Bissau, located in West Africa, bordering Senegal and Guinea, gained indepenednce from Portugal in 1973.The country has a 36,125㎢ area and 800,000 population, about 60 percent of whom believe in the local folk religion. The main part of the country`s economy is agriculture, in which 90 percent of the whole population is engaged , producing peanuts and coconuts. Marine products are also part of the resources of the country. Portuguese is spoken as the official language.
Guinea-Brissau is pursuing non-alignment as its diplomatic policy, but is also trying to promote co-operation with the Western World. Guinea-Bissau and our country established ambassador-level diplomatic relations in December,1983.
The Ministry of Communications issues this commemortive postage stamp as a token of our hearty welcome on this occasion of President Joao Bernardo Vieira`s state visit to the Republic of Korea.`
