Detail
`President and Mrs. Chun Doo Hwan make a state visit from Jun 25 through July 9 to the five member countries of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations at the invitation of their heads of stats. The ASEAN, whose members consist of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, was established in Bangkok on August 8, 1967 as a regional organization that aims at cooperation between the member nations in such fields as as economic, social and cultural development, promotion of regional peace and stability, and other matters of mutual consern. The ASEAN members and the Republic of Korea are alike not only in that we are all developing countries at this stage, but also in that we are all countries with similar ideological sympathy moving toward an open-society system of free economy. It is therefore expected that this visit of President Chun`s will be a meaningful occasion resulting in further strengthening the existing friendly relations and good will and developing a cooperative system in an epochal way between the ASEAN countries and the Republic of Korea. During the visit, President Chun is scheduled to have a series of summit talks on matters of mutual concern with the heads of the host nations - Indonesian President Soeharto, Malaysian King Haji Ahmad, Thai King Bhumibol, Philippine President Marcos and singaporean Head of state. The Ministry of Communications issues these stamps in commemoration of the meaningful occasion of President Chun`s state visit to the ASEAN member countries, praying that the visit will help open up a new epoch of cooperation and friendship in the southeast region of the world and thus countribute to world peace.`
