Detail
`The 62nd National Sports Festival is held in Seoul for six days from October 10 through 15, 1981, under the slogan ``Powerful Strength, Strong Solidarity and Everlasting March Forward``. The national sports festival, held in different cities around the country every year, has come back to Seoul seven years after it was last held in Seoul in 1974. Athletes representing 12 cities ans provinces and trhe Korean residents abroad will participate in this annual festival. Spectacular mass games are to follow the grand opening ceremony. More than 11,000 athletes will compete in 27 events-track and field, swimming, soccer, baseball, tennins, basketball, volleyball, table-tennis, hand-ball, rugby, crcling, gymnastics, Taekwondo, boat race, etc. The annual sports festival is aimed at promoting a sense of unity and perseverance among people and enhancing the rule-abiding spirit as exemplified by athletes. It is also hoped that these sports games will serve as a valuable occasion to emphasize the true spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, and help cultivate the athletic potentiality of the nation so that national prestige will be enhanced in the sports arenas of the world. The Ministry of Communications issues these two stamps in order to celebrate the national sports festival and to express the nation`s expectation that our youths will do their best in showing their athletic skills and strength, and thus bear good results that will enhance not only their regional honor but the general sports level of our country as well.`
