`Ships are an indispensable means of international trade. In our country, whose foreign trade is increasing rapidly and whose economic growth is based on export, need for the development of shipbuilding technology can hardly be overemphasized. Thus our government has long been promoting the shipbuilding industry. In celerbration of the growth of our shipbuilding industry, the Ministry of Communications has decided to issue stamps depicting Korean-made ships this year. It is also hoped that the decision will effect diversification of our stamp material in such a way as to be palatable to philatelists at home and abrosd. The following are the last two stamps in this series. 1. Chemical Carrier This 37,000 dwt chemical carrier, built by the Korea ShipbuildingCorporation, is 176.8m long, 29.6m wide and 15.5m deep, and has the cargo-loading capacity of 44,238㎥. The 36 holds of the ship are all equipped with their separate cargo gears so that less time is needed for loading and unloading cargoes. With the inner walls of her holds coated with special paint, the ship can be loaded not only with various kinds of chemicals, but also with a separate cargo in each hold. She has facilities for 40 crew members and is equipped with a 14,400 hp. engine that provides her with the maximum of 16.7 knots per hour. At present, she is owned by Norway. 2. Passenger Boat This 70 G/T passenger boat, built in 1978 by Korea Tacoma Marine Industries Ltd., is 27m Long, 5m wide and 2.3m deep. She can carry 125 passengers and crew members with the maximum speed of 23 knots per hour. Her extraordinary force of restitution and her wave-enduring force combine to give extra comfortableness to her passengers. The ship is now sailing between Pusan and Haegumgang.`
