Detail
`His Excellency Commander-in-Chief Samuel K. Doe, Head of State and Chairman of the People`s Redemption Council of the Republic of Liberia, makes an official visit to our country for five days from May 9 to 13, 1982 at the invitation of President Chun Doo Hwan.
Located in West Africa, with Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone as her neighboring countries, Liberia, with an area of 113,366㎢ and a population of about two million, attained independence on July 26, 1847, and is rich in such nature resources as iron are, diamond and gold. She uses English as the official language.
Liberia has pro-Western policy as the basis of her foreign relations, and the relation between Liberia and our country has rapidly been intensified in trade, economic cooperation and cultural exchanges since 1964 when the formal relations between our two countries were established. Liberia also has diplomatic relations with North Korea established in 1975, but the relations are not advancing because of the passive attitude of the former.
This visi of Head of State Samuel K. Doe, the first official visit by an African leader since the birth of our 5th Republic, has special significance by itself. But it is also expected that his visit will help further intensify the existing relations between the two countries.
The Ministry of Communications issues this stamp as a sign of our nation`s hearty welcome in the occasion of Head of Samuel K. Doe`s visit to the Republic of Korea.`
