Detail
`Their Majesties the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia are paying a state visit to our country for five days March 22 thought 26, 1983 at the invitation of President Chun Doo Hwan. Malaysia, a country in Southeast Asia, comprises part of the Malay peninsula and part of Borneo, bordering Thailand and Indonesia. The country has a population of 14.1 million and a land area of 330,434㎢, about 1.5 times that of the Korean peninsula. With a tropical climate of high humidity, the country produces tin, rubber, palm oil, lumber, etc. The Malaysian people, mostly Islamic, consists of Malays, Chinese and other minority races, and speak Malay as their official language. Malaysia, a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), is taking a neutral diplomatic policy of nonalignment, working mainly for the promotion of cooperation between the member countries of the organization. Our diplomatic relations with the country were established in 1960 and have since been rapidly progessing in the fields of trade, economic cooperation, culture and personnel exchange. The friendly relations between the two countries were given a strong momentum by President Chun Doo Hwan`s visit of Malaysia in June, 1981 and are expected to be further deepened by His Majesty Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah`s visit of our country. The Ministry of Communications takes pleasure in issuing this commemorative stamp as a token of the hearty welcome which our nation gives to Their Majesties the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia.`
