`The year 1984 marks the centennial of the korean postal administration. In commemoration of this occation, the International Philatelic Exhibition PHILAKOREA 84 is held in seoul from October 22 through 31, 1984.
The Ministry of Communication has, therefore, decided to issue a series of postage stamps designed to show the past and present states of the Korean postal service. The series will be issued until next year in five installments, of which the following two kinds are the second :
1. Postman of the Pre-modern Korea Period
Postman as a job was created together with the establishment of the General Bureau of Postal Administration in 1884. The postman depicted in the stamp fearures the postman cap and uniform of the Pre-Modern Korea Period. Post was delivered on foot.
