Detail
`The pollution of our environment has become a serious socioeconomic problem as the rapid industrial development, population growth and unbanization have brought about, along with them, a multitude of pollutants pernicious to our environment. Soot and smoke, belching from factories that produce modern conveniences of civilization, and various other wastes and gases, solid or liquid, discharged from industrial plants, households and automobiles pollute the air, river, land and our surroundings. Owing to the successful implementation of various economic development projects since the early 1960`s, the living standard of the people of Korea has been upleveled to a remarkable degree. It has to be admitted at the same time, however, that the phenomenal speed of industrialization impairs the beauty of nature and our living environment. We should bear in mind at this juncture that we, the human beings, ourselves are the very source of environmental pollution, thereby falling the victim to our own activities. Indeed, it is the impending duty imposed on us to protect our environment thought the exercise of our love of nature and motherland. The Ministry of Communications is issuing this postage stamp in the hope that it will remind all of us anew of the urgent need for preserving the beautiful nature bequeathed to us and handing it down intact to our descendants.`
