`As a theme of the third series of postage stamps depicking butterflies, the Ministry of Communications has chosen Colias erate Esper and Byasa alcinous Klug. 1. Colias erate Esper Belonging to the Pieridae family, the female butterflies are yellow or white while the made butterflies are always yellow. Easily food everywhere, on the mountains and in the fields, these butterflies are seen from spring through autunm. They fly comparatively fast in irregular directions. A larva of this insect lives on the leaves of Indigofera Pseudo­tinctoria. They are distributed in such areas as Korea, China, Japan and Siberia. 2. Byasa alcinous Klug Belonging to the Papilionidae family, they have black wings only female has five deep yellowish rea spots on outside and seven spots on inside of hind wings. These spots are also found on its abdomen. They are found chiefly on mountain areas from early May through September. They breed twice a year and the larva lives on leaves of Hocquartia Manchuriansis. This insent spends winter in a pupa state. They are distributed in such areas as Korea, Manchuria, China and Japan.`
