`The Ministry of Communications has chosen Nymphalis xanthomelas Denis et Schiffermuller and Fabriciana nerippe C. et R. Felder as the designs for the fifth and last of a series fo postgage stamps designed to introduce butterflies of Korea.
1. Nymphalis xanthomelas Denis et Schiffermuller :
A butterfly belonging to the Nymphalidae, Nymphalis xanthomelas Denis et Schiffermuller comes June. It flies much faster than other kinds of butterflies. It perches mainly on roadsides and damp lands. Its larva lives on the leaves of nettle-trees elms and willows and passes the winter period as an imago. It is seen in Korea, Manchuria and Japan, etc.
2. Fabriciana nerippe C. et R. Felder :
Also belonging to the Nymphalidae, Fabriciana nerippe C. et R. Felder breeds in the plains and fields. It flies around actively mainly in the morning and sleeps while it is very hot in summer. Its larva lives on violet flowers and passes winters still in the larval stage. It is seen in such Asian regions as Korea. Manchuria, Amur, China, Sakhalin, Japan and Siberia.`
