Detail
`The 42nd World Shooting Championships are to be held in Seoul, the capita city of the Republic of Korea, for 12days from September 24 through October 5, 1978, at the Teanung international shooting range, under the sponsorship of the Korea Shooting Federation. The World shooting championships were first held in Lyon, Franc, in 1897 under the auspices of Union International de Tir(UIT) which now embraces 115 shooting associations and/or federations from 98 member countries. Aimed at promoting the development of amateur shooting sport and member nations, transcending differences in political ideologies, races and religious creeds, as prescribed in Article 1 of UIT Charter, the World shooting championships have been held once every four yeas ever since. On the occasion of this World event, the Ministry of Communications is issuing three kinds of commemorative postage stamps in hope that the shooting championships, the first of its kind to be held in and Asian country, will further cement friendly ties among the peoples of all participating countries at the same time contributing a great deal to the development of the World shooting sport. Each of these stamps bears a design of a man in shooting posture to fire and air rifle. Pistol and a shot gun, respectively.`
