`In this year of 1977, the Republic of Korea achieved a monumental task of ``topping $10,000,000,000 in exports`` with the combined endeavor of all our people. We had to undergo in the past the vicious circle of social confusion and poverty because of the tragic division of our national territory and the north Korean Communist aggression of south Korea. In spite of the paucity of natural resources, however, the people of Korea rose up resolutely just like a phoenix in the early 1960`s. As a result of a concerted effort in unison, Korea has become a giant export country in Asia, second only to Japan, having attained successfully the $10­billon export goal, 13 years after topping $100 million in 1964 and barely seven years after marking $1,000 million in 1970. Today, various commodities ranging from shoes and wigs to ships and electronic watches manufactured by our people can be seen everywhere in the world, while large vessels and automobiles made in Korea sail and travel the Five Oceans and the expressways stretching endlessly in the North American Continent and Europe. Indeed, we have built a firm foundation on which to elevate Korea to a modern industrialized nation through the development of heavy and chemical industry and an epochal increase in exports. We should not sit on the laurel, however. All of us should further toil and continue to strengthen our national power. In commemoration of this glorious accomplishment, the Ministry Communications issues this postage stamp in the hope that all our people will get resolved afresh to realize a completely self­sufficient national economy through the attainment of the export target amount of $20 billion set for 1981 ahead of schedule so that all of us can live happily in peace and prosperity before too long.`
