`The Ministry of Communications is issuing these two postage stamps as the fourth part of a series featuring 10 kinds of fruits grown in Korea. 1. Cherry This fruit grows on a tree known as prunus tomentosa. The tree which has deciduous leaves, mostly oval in shape, is two to three meters tall. Pink or white blossoms bloom in April. The fruit, a smooth-skinned, round-shaped drupe with a long stem, turns deep red when it ripens in June. There are several varieties and they are interbred to produce the fruits. 2. Persimmon The tree that beaqs this fruit grows well and is fairly immune to blight and insects. Its leaves are deciduous. It produces a good crop almost every year. However, the tree, whose fruits tend to fall off before they are ripen, is vulnerable to cold weather. Therefore, in Korea, it is the southern region that is suitable for the cultivation of this tree. The fruit is yelloish red. Some persimmons require treatment to remove astringency. To make ``kotgam,`` dried persimmons, the fruits are peeled and dried in the shade.`
