`The Ministry of Communications is to issue two kinds of newlydesigned regular postage stamps of 6won and 100won denominations on October 10. 1975.
The design of the 6 won stamp is a lily, while Admiral Yi Soonshin was chosen for the design of the 100 won stamp.
1. Lily
Lily is a perennial plant belonging to the lily family. Its leaves are long with pointed ends. One or a few flowers, of white color, bloom on each branch. The flower smells very fragrant, and its bulbs, white or purple in color, are edible. The roots of a lily is used as herb medicine.
2. Admiral Yi Soonshin
Admiral Yi Soonshin was born in 1545 (or the 1st year of King Injong of the Yi Dynasty) in Seoul and is well renowned as a great commander for his gallantry and brilliant strategy displayed during the reign of King Sonjo. His penname was Yo Hai, and he was also given the name ``Chungmu Kong`` by the Royal Court. During the regin of Sonjo from 1576 when he passed the state examination for military service through 1598 when he died in action in the Noryang Sea Battle especially during the Japanese invasion of Korea, he fought the alien invaders selfsacrificingly for the defense of his fatherland.
His devout loyalty, high personality and prominent leadership made him one of the greatest men in the history of Korea.
His invention of the turtle ship enabled him to annihilate the invading Japanese armada off Hansando Island and Pusanpo Bay, thus helping him greatly in overcomeing the national crisis.
All the people of Korea, who respect and admire him highly, erected Hyunchungsa Shrine in Asan, Chungchongnamdo Province, in memory of his noble spirit of loalty and his sublime personality.`
