`The 10th of February 1976 marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology(KIST).
The Institute was established as a juridical foundation on February 10, 1966, with the assistance of the United States Government on the basis of an agreement reached upon between President Park Chung Hee and the then U.S. President Lyndon B.Johnson in May 1965, during President Park`s state visit to the U.S. that the promotion of basic and applied science is prerequisite to the economic development of Korea.
The main task imposed on this isstitute is to carry out overall research and development projects and to render technical assistance to the various industries of Korea. By successfully conducting research and study of international science and technology and by giving, technological information accurately to our industrial , the KIST has contributed a great deal to the industrial development and technical advancement in our country during the past 10years.
In order for us to achieve affluence and prosperity and to join the group of advancde countries of the world, acquisition of the most up to date science and technology is urgently required of us above anything else.
In the hope that the KIST will further devote itself to the develoment and growth of our fatherland, at the same time making the important mission of the KIST known more widely among the people, the Ministry of Commuications is issuing this commemorative postage stamp.`
