`In order to widely publicize the rare and beautiful kinds of birds of Korea, at the same time implanting the spirit of preserving them in the minds fo the people, the Ministry of Communications has decided to issue in 1976 postage stamps of bird series. As the theme for the first of the series, White­naped Crane and Siberian Bustard have been chosen. 1. White­naped Crane White­naped Crane is about 119㎝ long. Its body is light gray and its head and neck white. The gray portion of its body gets narrower as it goes up to the neck, coming to an end right below its eyes. The forside of its eyes and its legs are red. It is a migratory bird and dwells mainly in swamps, estuaries and rice paddies while passing through our country. Although there used to be many White­naped Cranes in Korea, they are very rarely seen these days. This bird is a protected one which was designated as Precions Natural Product No.203. 2. Siberian Bustard This bird is a also called wild turkey. Male is 102㎝ and female 76㎝ long. Its head and neck are gray, while its back is yellow­brown dotted with black spots. The belly is white, with male Siberian Bustard having a belt of chestnut color across its breast. Also a migratory bird, Siberian Bustard spends winter in Korea from late in November through sometime in March. It rests mostly in wide plains, farmlands or bushes. Because of over­hunting, it is now on the brink of extermination all over the world. Siberian Bustard, designated as Precious Natural Product No.206, is also a protected bird.`
