Detail
`The Republic of Korea won the women`s team event in the 32nd World Table Tennis Championships held in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia from April 5 through April 15, 1973.
In capturing the world championship for the first time in Korea`s history, the ROK women`s team won all of the eight contest, including those against the top-ranking Japanese and Communist Chinese teams.
The championships involved a total of #107 teams - 58 male and 49 female teams - made up of 458 ace paddlers from all over the world.
The Sarajevo victory of the ROK women`s team not only marked a monumental achievement in Korea`s athletic history but also established a proud image of Korea as a dominant force in the world`s ping-pong arena.
We heartily congratulate Miss Lee Ailesa, Miss Park Mi Ra and Miss Chung Hyon Suk, the victorious trio, for their Sarajevo triumph which brought honor and glory to our country and demonstrated Korea`s athletic ability to the world. Kim Chang Won, leader of the ROK table tennis teams, and other responsible athletic officials, including the coaches, also deserve high national praise and acclamation.
Joining the nation in celebrating the ROK women`s team`s triumphant capture of the world championship, the Ministry of Communications is issuing this commemorative postage stamp.`
