Detail
`The Ministry of Communications is issuing these two stamps as the third part of a series designed to introduce Korea`s traditional musical instruments. 1. A-chaing Similar to Tai-chaing in shape but smaller than it, this instrument has only seven strings. This instrument, however, is played with a bow of bare forsythia wood which is resined. It was used only in Chinese music during the Koryo period. But since the time of King Sungjong of the Yi Dynasty, it has been used mainly in Korean music. 2. Kyobang-ko This short-barreled drum, which is placed on a frame so that its skin faces upward, was used chiefly at Koybang during and after the Koryo period. Although similar to Mu-ko in size, this drum has an ornamental dragon drawn on its barrel. It was used mostly in palace-garden music of drums and flutes. But because it was often used in procession music, too, it was also called Haengak-ko. The drum is played in conjunction with chang-ko.`
