Detail
`A nationwide census of population and houses is to be conducted on October 1. The census, designed to obtain basic data to be utilized for the achievement of better economic, social and living circumstances of the people, covers the whole population and houses throughout all administrative(units) from provinces and cities down to eups(townships) or myons(one of the lowest administration units) and dongs(the lowest unit). Emphasis also will be placed in the conduct of the census on such social and cultural aspects as housing conditions, population movement and cultural facilities. The first population census was held in Korea in 1925 and it has been held twice every 10 years ever since, a summary census and a regular one every five years. The forthcoming one will the 10th regular census. The population and houses census this year also is part of a worldwide undertaking called the ``World Census of Population and Houses in 1970`` as suggested by the United Nations. The Economic Planning Board, which is in charge of the census, will take care of all preparatory matters, including planning, training of personnel and summing-up. A total of about 80,000 census districts will be set up, and one trained examiner will be assigned to every one of these districts. The examiner will visit every household in his district for the tabulation of census paper on a total of 32 matters. Results will be made public sometime in March 1971. Wholehearted cooperation of the general public is Solicited in the course of the census, since the result of the census will provide precious criteria for the future execution of state affairs such as politics, administration and activities of local autonomous bodies and various social organizations. The Ministry of Communications releases a postage stamp in commemoration of the nationwide census of population and houses in the hope the whole process of the undertaking will be conducted to a successful result.`
