`The Ministry of Communications has released, on five different occasions in a serial form, a total of 18 kinds of postage stamps bearing famous paintings of the Yi Dynasty. For the same purpose of publicizing renowned paintings of the Yi Dynasty both at home and abroad, the following five paintings have been chosen to be publicized in the sixth and final postage stamp series to be issued this time : Five genre paintings by Kim Hong-do : These paintings have been selected from among the numerous pieces by Kim Hong-do (1745-?), alias Danwon who is nowadays called the great artist of the Yi Dynasty. One of his paintings, Chokpyukdo, has already been introduced in the third of this postage stamp series. All five of the original paintings are 27cm in height and 22.7cm in width, and are preserved at the National Museum. The author served the Yi Dynasty court as an artist and was promoted in rank up to a country head. A master painter in the middle of the Yi Dynasty, Danwon was highly regarded especially for his art of sketching natual beauty such as mountains and rivers. He is also praised highly for the exquisite drawing of the movement of human being. Among more than 1,000 pieces of his works are such famous paintings as Chokpyukdo, Sosundo, Juksorudo, Muikwidodo, Hojongpibsudo, a fairy boy playing on the flute, Kuryongyon Waterfalls, a pair of pheasants, and the one depicting a group of fairies.`
