`March 28, 1972 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East (ECAFE), one of four regional economic commissions of the United Nations. The primary purpose of ECAFE is to accelerate economic and social growth and raise living standards in the ECAFE regions by promoting regional cooperation among member countries and by helping the member nations to work out and implement balanced development plans and programs. ECAFE, headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand, has 30 regular members and five associated members. ECAFE`s activities cover an area that accounts for one seventh of the earth and half of the world population. The Republic of Korea, an ECAFE member since 1954, has been playing a leading role in the ECAFE activities. The Ministry of Communications is issuing this commemorative stamp in honor of the remarkable achievements made by ECAFE and in the hope that the regional organization will further contribute toward betterment of the economic and social well-being in Asia and the Far East.`
