Detail
`December 12 this year marks the 20th anniversary of the recognition of the Republic of Korea by the United Nations. The 3rd UN General Assembly took up a question regarding the independence of Korea on December 12, 1948 and approved a resolution recognizing the Republic of Korea as a sole and legitimate government on the Korean peninsula.
This UN resolution proved again to the world that the communist government in the north which had been hindering the effort to unify Korea was nothing more than an unlawful puppet regime.
In the meantime, our move to seek the membership of the world organization has been hindered by persistent and malicious opposition as well as exercise of vetoes by communist satellite countries including the Soviet Union, and our country remains divided today because of the rejection of the UN`s effort to reunify our country by the communists in the north.
The Ministry of Communications issues a commemorative stamp on the 20th anniversary day of the UN`s recognition of the ROK expressing thanks for support rendered to us by our allies including the U.S., and hope that our country be admitted into the United Nation and that our dream of national reunification come true at the earliest day.`
