Detail
`The 10th Nationwide Korean Traditional Arts Contest will be held this year at a sports stadium in Taegu for three days beginning on October 3. Provincial teams which have been selected through preliminary contests in their own provinces will take part in the contest and compete for the top in five entry final categories including three established entries, namely farmers` band music, mask dance and folk games and two new entries to be adopted from this year, which are folk songs and folk dances. This contest limits participants qualification to amateurs and non-professional groups in light of the popularity of the folk arts and its weight in the everyday life of the general public. The primary purpose of the contest is to rediscover and inherit time-honored traditional folk arts that are tending to fade and vanish slowly today.
The Ministry of Communications issues a commemorative stamp hoping that this event will lead our generation to re-forge our traditional arts and thereby add a new dimension to our culture.`
