`April 7, 1968 marks the 20th anniversary of the World Health Organization. WHO was established on April 7, 1948 under the noble purport of promoting world health which is the true basis of human life. WHO defines no boundary of racial, political, religious and economical discriminations and devotes itself to promotion of world health services by fighting all sorts of diseases in collaboration with the countries all over the world. Comprising 132 member countries today, it directs all health service activities of the world and coordinating international cooperation in this shpere.
The activities of the WHO include legislation of international health regulations concerning prevention of diseases and quarantine, collection and dissemination of information and statistics on international standardization for drugs, cause of death, etc.
In a way of contribution to WHO, Republic of Korea provided the organization with 12 experts in the fields including leprosy, environmental sanitation and narcotic.
Responding to the special theme ``Health in the world of tomorrow``, chosen by the WHO for the year, Republic of Korea set the month of April as ``Month of Health`` with various programs designed to enhance the health consciousness among the people in the country.
Ministry of Communications will issue a commemorative postage stamp to mark the occasion.`
