Detail
`Postman`s Day in Korea is observed for the first time this year on 31 May. The Ministry of Communications designated the day to be observed annually in accordance with its Ordinance No. 341, effective 27 November 1967.
For the past 84 years since modern postal system was introduced into Korea, despite all the hardships they have had to undergo, the Korean postmen have at all times proved themselves the most faithful public servants in our community. Setting up the Postman`s Day, though at this rather tardy stage, should be regarded as a quite gratifying event in that it is designed to remind the public of their invaluable service and enhance their professional pride in serving as postal employees.
Looking at the postmen, one can not but feel a sense of gratitude for their painstaking public service to our community. Making their house-to-house call everyday throughout the country, rain or snow, they always carry one simple-looking but difficult mission to accomplish; to deliver the messages entrusted to them correctly and without delay.
It is hoped that this occasion will serve to instil in their mind yet firmer confidence for promising future and to renew their determination for devotion to further improvement of mail service of the country.
Let us join all together in extending our thanks and warm comfort for the toil they do for us.
Along with other various nation-wide programs to celebrate the occasion, the Ministry of Communications issues commemorative postage stamps in two denominations.`
