Detail
October 5th is the Korean Day. It is a day designated by the Korean government in 2007 to raise public awareness for the existence and importance of 7 million Koreans living abroad and to instill pride and self-awareness in those Koreans overseas. Koreans who work diligently and lead exemplary lives in communities all over the world have spared no support and effort to enable Korea’s remarkable growth and development today. The Korean Day is a day that celebrates the capabilities of Koreans living abroad, and on which 7 million Koreans living overseas and those in Korea collectively encourage each other and initiates exchanges. It is hoped that, through the celebration of the Korean Day, the people of Korea will deepen their recognition for Koreans abroad as the “extension of Korea’s national power and vital asset to the country,”and develop more profound interest and appreciation for those living overseas. To celebrate the Korean Day, Korea Post will issue a commemorative stamp depicting the “Koreans around the world.”The stamp design features an emblem symbolizing Nong-ak, Korea’s traditional farmers’ band music, and a Taegeuk pattern incorporating the national flags of the countries Koreans reside in to express a wish that Koreans will lead joyful lives in countries around the world.
