Detail
Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) is celebrating its 50th anniversary as Korea`s key public service media, bringing joy and touching experience to viewers. KBS has brought tears of happiness and sadness to many with its series of iconic broadcasts ranging from documentaries and dramas to reality television and news programs. Now, KBS is going beyond Asia to leap as a global media group. Let`s take a look back on KBS’s 50 years of history with this commemorative stamp.
KBS initiated the first broadcast in Korea under the name Gyeongseong Broadcasting Corporation in 1927 and relaunched itself in 1947 as Seoul Central Broadcasting Station. The station started its TV broadcast in 1961, bringing the new era of nationwide television. It finally became KBS as it is known today in 1973 after establishing the public broadcasting system, continuing its 50 years of history.
KBS has broadcasting stations in nine major cities and sub-stations in nine regions across Korea, and overseas branches in eleven regions, including the United States, Europe, China and Japan, for international correspondents. Furthermore, KBS has implemented various media services, furnishing four over-the-air television channels, two satellite channels, seven radio channels, four DMB channels, and KBS+, its over-the-top media service app where viewers can enjoy free content.
With the building of KBS in Yeouido as the background, the stamp includes the slogan that celebrates KBS’s 50th anniversary, “50 Years Together, Your KBS.” We hope the stamp serves as an opportunity to dive into the history of KBS, and remind you of the iconic programs that still hold a special place in your heart.
